I decided to cover Miley Cyrus’s song Unholy because I love the sentiment of reclaiming what is unholy about myself. I sang the song live a lot while I was working out the kinks for my last EP and it was my anthem. After RBG died I had the strongest urge to finish recording the song, which I had started a loose outline for pre-pandemic. With RBG gone, an election coming up and the summer ending, it feels like the last 6 months of reflection and unrest are giving way to a new chapter. I wanted to sign off with defiance and encourage other people to stand up for what is true to them, even if it’s a little unholy in the eyes of others.
